Liverpool 2-0 Everton

It was tense. At times it was like an FA Cup tie against a lower league side. But eventually Liverpool saw off Everton thanks in part to an inspired double sub from Jurgen Klopp.

Premier League (33), Anfield

April 24, 2022

Goals

Robertson 62′ (assist – Salah)

Origi 85′ (assist – Diaz)

Klopp played his hand on the hour, bringing on Luis Diaz and Divock Origi for Naby Keita and Sadio Mane, moving to a 4-2-4 formation.

It worked immediately, Origi getting himself into the box, played a return pass with Salah, whose cross was headed in at the back post by Andy Robertson.

But then it was time. The time that almost seemed inevitable. It was Divock time.

Diaz attempted an overhead kick, it bounced up perfectly and Origi headed home from close range. His sixth goal of the season.

Liverpool 2-0 Villarreal: Two goals in two minutes puts Reds in control

Liverpool put one foot firmly in the Champions League final as they fought to a 2-0 victory over Villarreal at Anfield, with the return leg to come next week.

Liverpool 2-0 Villarreal

Champions League Semi-Final First Leg, Anfield

April 27, 2022

Goals

Estupinan OG 53′ (assist – Henderson)

Mane 55′ (assist – Salah)

A wonderful flowing move led to a fortuitous goal soon after, with Thiago the mastermind again as the ball eventually found its way out to Jordan Henderson, whose cross was deflected over Rulli by left-back Pervis Estupinan.

Quick as a flash and Liverpool were 2-0 up, with another brilliant passage of play seeing Salah squeeze it though for Mane, who prodded past Rulli to double the lead.

From there, the Reds suffocated their Spanish opponents, who struggled to gain a foothold on possession as Fabinho and Thiago dominated the midfield battle.
